The city of Santa Clarita, with the help of the community, will begin scoping the new Lyons Corridor Plan, which will ultimately update planning and zoning regulations to make them consistent with the One Valley, One Vision General Plan for this core area of the community.

In preparation for these efforts, the city has launched a new interactive website to increase community involvement in the project.

"The city of Santa Clarita is committed to ongoing redevelopment efforts in the Newhall area to revitalize our economy, protect our neighborhoods, and create job and housing opportunities for Santa Clarita residents," said Mayor Marsha McLean.

"The Lyons Corridor Plan is the first in a series of steps designed to improve community aesthetics, guide new growth and influence the design of new buildings over the next year."

The Lyons Corridor Plan encompasses 102 acres of commercial and retail land that will be assessed on a parcel-by-parcel basis based on building type and use, circulation and density. The plan concentrates on the areas between Interstate 5 to the west and Newhall Avenue to the east.

The new website,, features an interactive blog and survey, as well as information about upcoming public outreach meetings. Interested parties have the opportunity to send feedback and comments on the 23 study areas identified along the Lyons Corridor map.

In addition to the website, a number of outreach meetings will be held with stakeholders, property owners, business owners, as well as interested members of the community to obtain input about what elements of Lyons Avenue are considered assets and what areas are in need of improvement.

The first public outreach meeting is set for Thursday, July 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the community room at Old Orchard Park, 25023 Avenida Rotella.
