Graduation season has officially started in the Santa Clarita Valley, and more than 3,500 high school students will receive their diplomas this month.

Valencia High School kicks off high school graduations tonight with a ceremony honoring an estimated 780 high school seniors at College of the Canyons’ Cougar Stadium.

All of the comprehensive high schools will hold their graduation ceremonies on  College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus.
For the first time, Bowman High School, the William S. Hart Union High School District’s continuation high school, will also celebrate its class of 2011 in a ceremony at the community college stadium.

College graduations are also under way in the Santa Clarita Valley. About 250 students from The Master’s College received their college degrees on Friday.

Nearly 400 students from the California Institute of the Arts will receive their degrees during a private ceremony at the Valencia art school Friday. Actress Annette Bening and dancer-choreographer Donald McKayle are the 2011 recipients of the CalArts’ honorary Doctor of Arts degrees.

College of the Canyons will wrap up graduation season with an outdoor ceremony June 3. An estimated 1,173 students will receive 1,211 degrees, spokesman John McElwain said. The college will also count 21 international students representing 15 countries, he said.
