Letter: Pro-union rhetoric needs fact-check

Carole Lutness’ May 15 letter “Comparing public to private doesn’t work” makes the accusation that the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility comparison of public-sector and private-sector retirement benefits does not include Social Security benefits.

Had Lutness taken the time to read the report, she would have seen that the comparison charts clearly include Social Security. While teachers do not participate in Social Security, most public-sector employees do. So, yes, the comparison is “apples to apples.”

Lutness also brings into question the motives of the organization and the people behind it without any facts, yet fails to mention her own agenda as a union shop steward.

Lutness may continue to ignore the facts, but the paying public cannot.
