Senior lunch menu
Available Monday through Friday at the SCV Senior Center in Newhall. Meals are also available when you call one day ahead at Bouquet Canyon Seniors, Monday through Friday, (661) 513-9479, and available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Masonic Lodge in Friendly Valley (661) 299-4595.

Activities
The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St. in Newhall. For a detailed monthly calendar, call the center at (661) 259-9444. All the following activities will occur at the SCV Senior Center, unless otherwise indicated.
Wednesday, May 18 — Pamela Goodwin, outreach specialist of California Telephone Access Program, and audiologist Catherine Senne from Sonus Hearing Care professionals will present a free hearing screening and telephone distribution event. (Note: A state-mandated program, CTAP provides free specialized telephone equipment and devices to qualified California residents, must have existing phone service.)
Thursday, May 19 — Podiatrist Dr. Shane Rhoades of Canyon Foot Care will provide free foot exams, 11 a.m.-noon, supportive services trailer (no callus or nail trimming).
Wednesday, May 25 — Providence Health Services and Facey Medical Group presents psychotherapist Jamie Merrill, who will discuss “What you should know about stress management.”
Wednesdays — Noon-1 p.m., Blood pressure checks held, Activity Room 6.

Free healthy foods cooking class
Registered Dietitian Stephanie Correnti will conduct a free “Healthy Foods for a Healthier You” cooking and nutrition classes at the Senior Center in activity rooms A-1 and A-2 on Fridays through May 20. Pre-registration is required. New recipes and information each week. Classes run from 1-2 p.m. and then 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and are limited to 15 persons per session. You may also sign up in person in the Supportive Services modular at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall.

Functional Fitness
At 8:30 a.m. M-W-F, we’re movin’ and groovin’, steppin’ and sweatin’ to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett.

We’re the new and improved “middle age” 50-plus active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness – moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization, and spatial awareness for balance – all within one hour. If you’re not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you. Call the Senior Center at 259-9444, or Linda Bennett at 993-3969.


Food for the Soul
Put smiles on the faces and warm the hearts of homebound seniors when you become a home-delivered meal driver.
Become a part of our volunteer team to ensure that no senior goes without a meal. Help is desperately needed for as little as two and one-half hours one day a week or even one day a month (Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.). Vehicles provided. Contact the SCV Senior Center: 259-9444.

Recreation and Leisure

CHP Safe Senior Driving
The California Highway Patrol, Newhall area, will conduct a free four-week series of “Safe Senior Driving” classes at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center May 27-June 17. Held on consecutive Fridays from 1-2 p.m., the classes will promote education on: safe driving  strategies; physiological and psychological changes that can affect driving; “CarFit” vehicle adjustments and knowing when it’s time to turn in your keys.No reservations needed. The Safe Senior Driving classes will be held in activity rooms A-1 and A-2. The SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St.,
