Letter: Minority group delaying Castaic high school

I read with interest the article in The Signal about the so called “grassroots” group Citizens for Castaic (“Castaic group raises concerns,” May 9), which opposes the construction of a Castaic High School in Romero Canyon.

Rest assured, I’m confident this group does not speak for the majority of Castaic residents, and I urge the Hart School Board to not fall for their pressure tactics aimed at delaying the process of building the urgently-needed new high school.

Castaic residents are desperate to have their children attend a local high school and have been disillusioned time after time by promises of a new high school that have not materialized. With two children in the Castaic School District, I’m one of those disillusioned residents.

I know I speak for many Castaic parents when I say it would be a terrible shame if we let a small minority of “Not in My Backyard” neighbors stop this crucial project.

I urge the Hart School Board to continue with plans to build a new high school in Romero Canyon and not let any group with selfish interests to stop this crucial community project. Now is the time to show leadership and fulfill your promise.
