A Castaic man was killed Saturday when the truck he was driving off road fell off a hill and crashed on San Francisquito Canyon Road, authorities said.

Robert James Soukup, 54, was attempting to make a three-point turn with his 2003 Dodge pickup truck on a narrow mountain road when he is believed to have accidentally driven the truck in reverse off the hillside at about 10:30 a.m. and crashed on the 29889 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road, Sgt. Kevin Pack of the California Highway Patrol Newhall Station said.

Soukup, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck as it flipped down the hillside, Pack said.

It was not clear Tuesday how far he fell.

Soukup’s body was discovered by a person who lives near the crash site two hours later. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at 12:52 p.m.
