Mental focus is truly the key to your success

For the record, I started Fitness Edge Boot Camp almost five years ago. Until then, I had never found any exercise regimen that I could stick to. This program was the key for me, and when Fitness Edge Boot Camp founder Cheryl Broughton asked me to help her develop the mental focus portion of the program and teach it, I jumped at the chance.

Cheryl and I share a firm belief that mental focus is one of the four things it takes to achieve your fitness goals, and that it is perhaps the most important ingredient. We also believe that it is the key to achieving what you want in any other area of life.

Anyone can be successful. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is often simply how mental focus has been applied. Successful people use their minds to focus clearly on what they want to achieve. They also use the power of their minds to help them make a habit of doing things that unsuccessful people are unwilling to do. Most of us know at least some of the things we need to do in order to be successful in the ways we have defined. The difference that forms the success habit is being willing to do what it takes to achieve our goals - even when it is hard or we "don't want to" - each and every day. In the fitness area, this can be things like showing up for boot camp, or writing down what you are eating.

This process does not have to be a struggle. We can learn about how our minds work for and against us, and then utilize that power in the service of the things we want to be, do, and have in our lives. This is a form of self-discipline, but not in the way you may have understood that term in the past. It is not simply the application of "will-power." Rather, it consists of:

n Being clear about what you really want to be, do, or have

n Understanding what you need to do to produce real, long-term change

n Identifying your own mind's built in resistances to the changes you are making (beliefs, thoughts, fears), and what emotionally based reactions or behaviors you use that do not serve your current goals

n Learning to release or handle your resistances, and to replace the negative emotional responses with more appropriate and useful behaviors which are aligned with what you want

n Taking daily steps that are aligned with or move toward what you want

This type of self-discipline generates its own momentum after a while. The more you do each of these things, the more they align the subconscious mind with your conscious goals. The more the subconscious mind becomes aligned in this way, the more it automatically drives actions that are consistent with the vision you have, and changes occur much more easily and rapidly.

At Fitness Edge Boot Camp, we want participants to have a direct experience of how the power of their own mind can be used to make permanent, positive changes in their lives. Different than many other exercise programs, we provide the option to utilize mental focus lessons and assignments which help you develop these habits.

We want our troopers to sharpen the tool of their mind and see what they can achieve in any area of life.

We know this works because we have seen our troopers not only achieve great fitness results, we've had troopers start businesses, go back to school, finish their master's degrees, and make other amazing life changes and accomplishments, as a result of what they've learned at Fitness Edge Boot Camp.
