A 30-year-old woman was in critical condition Monday after her car collided with a truck driven by an off-duty deputy from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, authorities said.
The woman is believed to have suffered head trauma and broken ribs as a result of the crash in Saugus, said Lt. Tom Bryski.
She was unconscious when she was taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The off-duty deputy, whose age was not immediately available, complained of back and neck pain, Bryski said.
Investigators had not determined the cause of the crash by 6:20 p.m. but authorities said they believe the woman caused the crash.
The woman, who was driving a dark-colored Mercedez-Benz, was making a left hand turn from Summerhill Lane when her car was struck by the man’s Chevrolet Silverado that was headed north on McBean Parkway.
Bryski said the woman is believed to have cut in front of oncoming traffic.
Two lanes on McBean Parkway were closed while investigators examined the crash site.
