Joining The Signal are Catherine Stebbins as classified advertising director and Steven Chadwick as retail advertising manager.

Two seasoned advertising executives who will play a key role in increasing the newspaper’s success and presence joined The Signal this week, Publisher Ian Lamont announced Thursday.

Classified Advertising Director Catherine Stebbins started Monday, and Retail Advertising Manager Steven Chadwick joined The Signal on Thursday.

“I feel an excitement building of renewed energy to offer to the community a newspaper that is relevant and a vital part of their day,” said Stebbins, who brings 20 years of experience in newspaper and radio sales and management.

“I am looking forward to giving back to this great community and partnering with our local businesses toward helping them communicate their important message to the community, and ultimately, helping them build their business,” said Chadwick, who comes to The Signal with 12 years of sales and management experience, including six years with newspapers and magazines.

Both executives say they view the Santa Clarita Valley as an energetic community and see a great opportunity for The Signal to reflect the growth of the area.

Both are also long-term residents of the SCV.

Chadwick, a graduate of Hart High School, said he is optimistic about building circulation at a paper where the editorial news and coverage is really taking off.

“It’s a new day at The Signal,” Lamont said. “Adding experience and sales management talent like Catherine and Steven bring to The Signal is wonderful.

“Our customers will soon experience the impact their leadership and creativity will have, as will the entire SCV market.”

Chadwick places importance on bridging the gap between the paper and the Santa Clarita Valley community and local businesses.

Stebbins, a graduate of Georgetown University’s Graduate Executive Development Program, began her career as a photographer-writer.

She moved on to radio sales management in Lancaster. Most recently, she spent nine years at 92.7 Jill FM in Thousands Oaks, managing the radio station and overseeing sales.

Chadwick, who earned his degree in economics from the University of Oregon, began his sales career at Performance Labs Inc,, a dietary supplement manufacturer and marketer based in Calabasas.

He moved to Drug Store News Group and became district manager, managing a sales team covering 12 Western states across the Drug Store News Group’s three divisions.

In 2005, Chadwick left the News Group to co-found a contract sales and marketing consulting firm.

“Growing up in the Santa Clarita Valley, The Signal played an integral role in my life, as it does today for so many individuals and famlies living in the SCV,” Chadwick said.

“I’m thrilled to be back in the newspaper industry,” Stebbins said, “especially since it’s with my hometown newspaper.

“Walking into the doors at The Signal feels like I’ve returned home.”
