An on-campus fight between five Saugus High School students broke out during a morning break Tuesday because one of the students had spit on another’s car during a weekend party, authorities said.

The fight, in which three students fought two others, occurred during a recess at about 10:15 a.m. and was broken apart within seconds by school officials, said Deputy Devin Freeman of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Freeman responded to the school.

Four of the students were arrested on campus, while the fifth was expected to be brought into the sheriff’s station by his parents in the next few days.

None of the students were injured, Freeman said, and all were expected to be charged with fighting on school grounds.

School administrators plan to launch an investigation into the fight before determining what punishment, if any, the students will receive, Saugus High School Principal Bill Bolde said.

Citing California’s Education Code, Bolde said he would not release the ages of the students, where on campus the fight occurred or what punishments the students involved might be facing.

“Today was one of those days where the deputy was pretty busy but I assure you we didn’t have all hell breaking loose,” Bolde said. “Our main focus is not on being punitive with kids, it’s on making sure they make good choices in the future. That being said, most of the time there are some consequences to pay.”
