Four Castaic Middle School seventh-graders have been awarded scholarships to attend the American Association of University Women’s Tech Trek Science Camp for Girls.

After a rigorous selection process, Mikayla Vovk, Andrea Marroquin, Madeleine Manahan and Tera Geoffrey were chosen to participate in next summer’s program, where they will have the opportunity to participate in a weeklong residential experience that features daily hands-on activities in math, science and related fields, all situated on a university campus. Leilani Ingold was selected as a Tech Trek Science Camp scholarship alternate.

The American Association of University Women is a national organization with a membership of 80,000 that seeks to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Tech Trek Science Camp was designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall.

This summer’s Tech Trek programs will be held on the campuses of Stanford University; Sonoma State University; University of California, Davis; California State University, Fresno; Whittier College; University of California, Santa Barbara; University of California, San Diego; and University of California, Irvine.
