Saugus was looking for one more challenge, one more fight to the finish from a nonleague opponent.

It did not truly happen Wednesday, as the Centurions punished Chaminade of West Hills in three straight sets at Saugus High School.

After a 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 victory, the Centurions have begun their season with an 11-0 record going into today's Foothill League opener at 5:15 p.m. at home against Canyon.

"If we play the way we should, we should be able to win," Saugus head coach Zach Ambrose said. "But if anyone's not playing at the top of their game, no one can say we can just win any time. Anything can happen in Foothill League."

By no means did Saugus come out playing perfect volleyball. The Centurions took an 11-8 lead but a few hitting errors led to a timeout called by Ambrose.

The third game was among the best the team has played this season. It led to the ninth three-set win this season, including a stretch of six in a row in mid-September.

"We came out a little flat today," Ambrose said. "We made a lot of mistakes. I'm glad we were pushed a bit today. It shows we can't coast."

Outside hitter Katie Estes led the team with 15 kills. Freshman hitter Jaclyn Clark finished her match with eight kills.

Setter Alyssa Terwall finished with 22 assists. Taylor Schubert and Rachel Kempler both finished with three blocks.

Clark had 12 digs for Saugus.
