Hiram Yanez, of Canyon Country
Amount: $500

Nominated by Signal subscriber
Steve Petzold, of Santa Clarita

By Steve Petzold

I would like to nominate my friend Hiram Yanez for the Santa Clarita Valley Helping Hand fund. Hiram and I attend The Sanctuary Church in Canyon Country. Although we knew of each other as professional contacts, I really got to know and admire him when we traveled to Mexico several years ago on a mission trip .

Recently, Hiram was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and lymphoma. I only found out when he posted his condition and situation on his Facebook page.

Hiram was hospitalized for about a week, discharged, stood in line at the state Employment Development Department, and was readmitted to the hospital. Through this entire ordeal, Hiram has maintained a positive attitude, and made posts on Facebook about the love for his wife, family and friends.

I am sure that this situation is putting a great deal of stress on him and his wife, Sandra, especially in the area of finances.

It is my hope that you will consider Hiram Yanez for assistance from the SCV Helping Hand fund. I believe that his difficult situation is one which would align itself with the goal of the donor for the use of these funds.

A note from The Signal’s SCV Helping Hand Committee: Mr. Petzold is right; Hiram Yanez is exactly the type of individual we seek to help through the funds generously donated by a Signal reader for distribution to community members in need. We have elected to write Mr. Yanez a check for the maximum $500, and wish him a full recovery from his ailment.
