A Wiley Canyon Elementary School student struck by a car in front of school is scheduled for release from the hospital today, a sheriff's official said.

A car struck the student Tuesday as he darted out between two parked cars on Wiley Canyon Road directly in front of the school, said Sgt. Richard Cohen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's station.

Emergency responders were on scene in minutes and airlifted the child to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, Cohen said. The child suffered lacerations to the head and minor injuries. The paramedics decided to airlift the child as a precaution, he said.

Deputies didn't cite the driver and witnesses did not see the driver speeding near the school, Cohen said.
