Former Saugus pitcher, Shawn Smith was selected by the Princeton Devil Rays, a minor league team in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, to travel to Venezuela at the end of October.

Smith was the only player chosen from the Devil Rays team to train and condition with players from the Venzuelan National Baseball team.

Coach of the Year
Canyons Aquatics Swim Club's head age group coach, Jeremy Anderson, has been awarded the American Swimming Coaches Association's title "Age Group Coach of the Year" for the Southern California region for the second year in a row.

Anderson is in his fourth year at Canyons.

Fresh starts
Former Canyon soccer players Courtney Belshiem and Hart graduate Casey Rubin have been significant factors in Santa Barbara City College's 5-0-4 start this season.

Rubin and Belshiem, both freshmen who start for the lady Vaqueros soccer team, play midfielders.

In SBCC's tie against Taft on Friday, Belsheim came the closest to scoring in the second half when her 30-yard shot bounced off the crossbar.

SBCC is currently ranked No. 6 in the country.
