Letter: Block party is not so great

They may be partying now, but they won’t be partying for long.

The Signal’s April 10 article about the Extreme Neighborhood Makeover is a joke. I feel for the residents of that neighborhood if they have the same experience the Bonelli tract homeowners had.

The city comes in and has a party with the residents, and tells you everything is going to be so wonderful. The next thing you know, a community preservation officer is at your door, telling you all the violations you have on your property.

You probably don’t know they are violations. Things like your driveway is too wide, you have an illegal patio, your trash cans can be seen from the street, or you have weeds or brown spots on your lawn.

In the case of the Bonelli tract, the residents were threatened with fines or jail time if they did not comply.

Maybe, in this case, the city won’t do that, but it will still cost the residents thousands of dollars to bring their houses up to code.

If The Signal wants the real story, go back to that neighborhood in a couple of months and interview the residents who had to pay thousands of dollars and see how happy they are.

I’ve been a Signal reader for more than 30 years, and it’s too bad the paper has turned into a buster for the city and Chamber of Commerce, and will not tell the real story.
