The Valencia High School dance team won the Grand Championship Title for Overall Best High School Dance Team, and the national championship in Intermediate Dance at the United Spirit Association National Competition last month. The team will host its annual dance show 7 p.m. April 29 and 30.

The Valencia High School dance team made history last month at the United Spirit Association National Competition when it captured a national championship title.

“This is the first time that all five of our dances made it to the arena to perform for the national championship title,” team coach and choreographer Trevor Lynskey said.

The team won the national championship in Intermediate Dance. The dance, “Can’t be Tamed,” later dubbed “the Angry Birds” because of its feathery costumes and dramatic dance moves, was choreographed by Tiffany Burton, and was undefeated throughout the entire competition season.

The team also won the most prestigious award of the night: the coveted Grand Champion Title for Overall Best High School Dance Team. It was the first time that Valencia won the award.

Throughout the dance competition season, Valencia dance won 32 first-place, 10 second-place and three third-place trophies.

This is also the first year for adviser Michelle Brown.

“This has been an incredible season for the team, and first year for me,” she said. “The team’s hard work and dedication have really paid off. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

This year’s team consisted of seniors Marlee Feinholz, Carly Janusek, Kayte Largman, Chase Lehner, Emily Morgan, Tori Pinkston, Brooke Radding, Chelsea Raff and Sarah Ruffner; juniors Emily Gasper, Tasia Moore and Danica Wilkerson; sophomores Danielle Dardis, Siri Loken and Christina Mondon; and freshmen Caroline Poehls, Jessie Tamboline, Gail Megan Teagle and Rachael White.

The Valencia dance team will host their annual Dance Show at 7 p.m. April 29 and 30.

Tickets are still available to watch this team showcase all their award-winning numbers.

Saugus, West Ranch and Hart high schools will be performing, as well as dance studios from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
