DUI checkpoint nets three arrests

Second DUI checkpoint in less than a week

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday night during a DUI checkpoint in Santa Clarita.

Of the 802 cars that were screened at the checkpoint between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., 11 vehicles were towed and seven vehicles were impounded for at least 30 days, according to a statement from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Meanwhile, 17 drivers were cited by deputies for either being unlicensed or driving with suspended licenses.

Thursday's checkpoint, which took place at at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Grandview Drive, marks the second such operation in less than a week in Santa Clarita.

Authorities arrested 18 drivers, impounded 10 vehicles and issued four vehicle citations during a DUI checkpoint at the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway on April 8.

During that checkpoint, one driver was arrested for DUI, two drivers were arrested for possessing illegal drugs and 15 drivers were arrested for either driving without a license or with a suspended license.
