TMC men ties Biola University

Forward Joaquim scores to prevent loss

A goal scored by Fabio Joaquim in the 79th minute prevented a loss by The Master's College men's soccer team on Saturday, in a 1-1 tie in double-overtime at Biola University in La Mirada.

Joaquim scored on the third attempt in a two-minute series, started by a head shot by Phillip Friehe that was saved by Biola goalkeeper Kevin Lawson.

The game was the Mustangs' Golden State Athletic Conference opener. The Master's is 4-0-2 overall.

Friehe attempted another shot that was blocked, before Joaquim scored the goal.

Biola scored in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead, on a goal by Jake Ravenscraft.

Ravenscraft was nearly the hero in the second overtime, but his header was saved by Lawson at the end of the period.

In the first overtime, Mustang Jacob Marchesani put up a shot that was saved by Tyler Higgins.

Biola had two solid shots in the second overtime, both off of corner kicks, but Lawson saved both shots. Lawson finished with six saves.

The Master's College players Joel Peluffo and Joaquim both had two shots on goal. Brian Gardner, David Alegria and Armstrong each had one shot on goal. TMC was outshot by Biola, 16-15.

BU improved to 5-1-1 overall.
