You don't have to sit home today and wonder what to do. There's the annual Street Art Festival (www.streetartfest.com) in Newhall and a few blocks away at William S. Hart Park the annual Hart of the West Powwow (www.friendsofhartpark.org/powwow.asp.) Those keen on alpacas will find three Agua Dulce alapaca ranches open today for National Alpaca Farm Days (for more information visit www.saddlebackmtnranch.com, www.tanglewoodalpacas.com and www.sweetwateralpacas.com).

Woman of Honor
Last weekend was a whirl of social activity so it was time to call in the cavalry - in the person of Annemarie Donkin, former staff writer at The Signal. Among her observations: Some of the Child & Family Center officers and members who honored Liz Seipel were Darrell Paulk, CEO Child & Family Center; Lois Bauccio, CFC Foundation; Terry Martin, John Hoskinson, Michael Berger, Adele Macpherson, Judy Fish, Gloria Mercado and Steve Sturgeon. In addition to the board members and volunteers, some of the guests in the capacity crowd were NBC anchor Chris and Katrina Schauble, Colleen Shaffer was there with members of the Sunrise Rotary Club; Greg Nutter, Ed Bolden and Chris and Krissy Ball. Also on hand were Laura Gallardo, Duane and Pauline Harte, Michele Mann and Cindy Kittle. Shelley Hann floated through the room in a stunning sea green diaphanous gown. John and Michelle Dow and Kyle and Jeanna Crawford made the rounds. Arts and charity supporters Jamie and Penny Ritter made a presence on the dance floor. Not to be missed were newlyweds Margo Miller and Bob Hudson, just back from their Aug. 29 wedding aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise.

I had a LARC
I've never covered the annual LARC Ranch fundraiser before the "Elvis Celebration" event held Sept. 21. I was very impressed. The well organized event was attended by nearly 600 supporters of the Los Angeles Retarded Citizens Ranch located a few miles outside the Santa Clarita city limits in Bouquet Canyon. The food was spectacular and Layne Catering, Dessert Alert and the other food purveyors should be given a standing ovation for providing a top notch meal and goodies. As for the entertainment, I'd seen Raymond Michael perform as Elvis a few years back in Hart High Auditorium - and a quote from my Escape review appears on his Web site at www.raymondmichael.com. Michael is still a powerful performer and his personification of Elvis is a tribute to the King. It was a joy to watch the developmentally disabled residents of LARC kick up their heels and dance. Many of them dance much better than myself, performing intricate swing dance moves I could only dream of accomplishing. Kudos to everyone who made the LARC event - a lark to attend and cover. Friends of LARC officers: Renee Holland, Harold Holland, M.D., Elie M. Gindi, M.D., Nancy Title, Linda Robinson and Audrey Appel. LARC Auxiliary, Inc. officers: Gloria Aranoff, Berta Handel, Ruth Feld, Yhuda Handel, Charlotte Solomon and Gerry Correll. Board of trustees officers: John Acker, Robert Stewart, Alisa Lever, Greg, Simon, Alisa Lever, Kethleen Sturkey, Wayne Wright. Board members: Nadine Acker, Audrey Appel, Martin Appel, Alan Aranoff, Gloria Aranoff, Donald Bilsky, Gerald Campbell, Kenneth Crouse, Ruth Feld, Berta Handel, Haya Handel, Edwin Hill, M.D., Harold Holland, M.D., Renee Holland, Mark Lever, Dean Lowrey and Claire Rothman.
