Sixth annual 'Evening of Remembrance' at Youth Grove Wednesday

A Central Park visitor pauses at the Youth Garden to reflect on the young lives lost in traffic collisions. The fifth annual "Evening of Remembrance" is Wednesday, April 11.

The city of Santa Clarita, the Blue Ribbon Task Force and the City Council will host the 6th annual "Evening of Remembrance" at the Youth Grove in Central Park on Wednesday, April 13, at 7:15 p.m.

"The 'Evening of Remembrance' is a powerful ceremonial event held each year to emphasize the unfortunate consequences of reckless driving," Mayor Marsha McLean said. "Through this annual event, we hope to make enough of an impact on our community youth so that not a single additional name is added to the memorial."

This ceremonial event serves as a time of tribute to the lives of local youth lost in traffic-related collisions while raising awareness and stressing the importance of safe, conscientious driving.

The "Evening of Remembrance" will feature vocal performances by the Hart High Choir and a candle lighting ceremony with the reading of the 82 names represented at the site.

The Youth Grove Memorial serves as a safe venue where the public can go to remember Santa Clarita Valley youth killed in traffic-related collisions, while also serving as an educational tool to deter further deaths.

The memorial features pillars that mimic cut tree stumps, each representing a young life cut short on the road. The pillars surround a central monument urging the community to "KNOW MORE" about safe driving habits, and to pledge that "NO MORE" young lives will be lost behind the wheel.

Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
