A Santa Clarita man who was allegedly prowling outside of people’s homes in Valencia on Wednesday was shot with a Taser after he allegedly tried to elbow a deputy in the face, authorities said.

The man, 42, was being examined at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The man would be booked at the Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of prowling and battery on a peace officer after he was released from the hospital, Bryski said.

The deputy who fought with the man was not injured, he said.

Residents reported seeing a man prowling in backyards in the West Hills neighborhood at about 1:30 p.m.

Authorities confronted the man on a hillside after they saw him jumping over fences on the 28000 block of Via Belterra north of Copper Hill Drive, Bryski said.

The man tried to fight deputies when they asked what he was doing in people’s backyards. Authorities shot the man with a Taser once and arrested him while he was stunned, Bryski said.
