A high-powered offense was not quite enough for West Ranch on Friday, in a 41-31 loss at Beverly Hills High School.

Wildcat quarterback Jake Bernards passed for 348 yards and two touchdowns as WRHS fell to 1-2 this season.

Bernards was picked off once and went 26-for-46 in the game.

Frankie Madero caught both of Bernards' touchdowns. One was a 30-yard reception, the other was a 7-yard grab.

West Ranch tailback Ross Bacon ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Bacon carried the ball in from 22 yards out on one and from 20 on the other dash.

Senior Troy Wise recovered a fumble in the game.

West Ranch nearly made it a 41-38 ballgame and could have tried a potential onside kick attempt toward the last few seconds. But with 14 seconds left, two dropped passes from seven yards out prevented that scenario.

Geoffrey Ernst had a team-high nine tackles. Adam Nowakowski added eight tackles.

West Ranch's next game is its Homecoming at 7 p.m. on Friday at Valencia High School.
