Students at Santa Clarita Christian School will be holding a car-wash fundraiser at Power Honda Valencia on Saturday to raise money for the family of U.S. Army Spc. Rudy A. Acosta.

The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., but could go longer depending on the turnout, said Power Honda General Manager Carlos Dominguez.

About 30 seniors — nearly the entire senior class of Santa Clarita Christian — are expected to help wash cars and raise money for the Acosta family, said Joanna Masopust, 17, who helped organize the event.

Students have been passing out fliers and yellow posters around town to get the word out, she said.

“We were the closest class to him in the whole school,” Masopust said. “A lot of people are donating gifts and cards, but we want to help the family in a financial way.

“We figure it’s a great way to honor Rudy and bless his family.”

When he was a senior, Acosta and Zach Cronin, then a sophomore, became fast friends on the football field. They both played defensive line.

“We hung out at every practice; we shared the bench,” Cronin, 18, said. “Rudy was a great guy. He was honest and one of the most caring people I have ever met in my life.”
