Law enforcement authorities arrested 264 probationers, seized 107 weapons and $3.9 million worth of illegal drugs during unannounced probation searches in February, Los Angeles County officials said Tuesday.

Local law enforcement and probation officers with the DISARM (Developing Increased Safety through Arms Reduction Management) program conducted 1,400 unannounced searches throughout the county, County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich said in a statement.

Officers confiscated 48 handguns, 23 assault rifles and 21 shotguns and rifles, according to the statement.

About 10 percent of probationers searched by officers since the DISARM program began in February 2000 have violated the terms of their probation.
