Letter: Support our troops, both here and gone

I want to thank the city of Santa Clarita and our local paper, The Signal, for making us all aware of the loss of one of our own, Spc. Rudy A. Acosta, age 19, from Canyon Country.

I also want to thank The Signal for the article on Spc. Acosta’s memorial service and the route of the funeral procession from the church to Eternal Valley.

I had an opportunity to talk to Lila Littlejohn, executive editor of The Signal, about possibly printing in the paper a reminder for all in our community to come out and show your support for our fallen warriors — to either be at the memorial service or somewhere along the memorial route to Eternal Valley.

It is very important that all of us in the private sector support our troops.

In an article I read in another paper, there are more than 2 million young men and women returning from the wars in the Middle East. At least one-third, if not more, of our troops will come home with post-traumatic stress disorder.

It’s up to us to show how much we care about our warriors, wounded physically or mentally, and those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our right to be free.

Please take the time to show your support by attending Spc. Rudy A. Acosta’s memorial service Thursday, or be along the procession route and bring an American flag.

There is also a Facebook page set up to honor these local men as well — SCV Citizens for Servicemen and women.
