Letter: Pelosi enjoyed high life at our expense

Jim McElvain’s March 22 letter, “Politicians over-paid, out of touch,” commented broadly on past-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s costly trips.

Actually, the Judicial Watch organization filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act and obtained these specifics about Pelosi’s royal lifestyle:

Pelosi made 85 trips in a 68 week period. Several of these flights included “guests” like grown children, grandkids, in-laws, friends and hangers-on, and 95 percent of these trips were commuter trips from Washington, D.C., to her turf here in California.

* Total miles: 206,264

* Cost to taxpayers: $2,100,744

* Cost of in-flight food and alcohol: $101,429

On her “important” trip to Baghdad, the bar was stocked with premium alcohol like Grey Goose Vodka, Maker’s Mark Whisky bourbon and Bombay Sapphire gin.

Clearly, her highness took every advantage to enjoy the high life at our expense — all of this when the economy was going down the tubes.

Now, however, she’ll just have to fly on her broom.
