The fall 2008 Job & Career Fair presented by College of the Canyons and The Signal on Wednesday was one of the most well attended fairs in the past few years, according to the Career Services Center.

The college’s cafeteria hosted 62 employers and attracted more than 500 people from the Santa Clarita, Antelope and the San Fernando valleys. More than 50 people lined up before the fair opened.

The job seekers were very competitive according to Anthony Michaelides, Director of Career Services at COC.

“It was a little different for us...we had less companies, and what seems like more job seekers,” Michaelides said.

Local professionals and COC students crowded the tables with resumes in hand. Employers were eager to fill available job positions and some employers even conducted interviews on the spot.

The employers represented a variety of fields such as military, medical, engineering, and finance. Employers at the fair are required to have at least 1 position open and do not charge fees for applications.

The college will host another job fair at the Canyon Country campus Oct. 8. Forty companies are registered and many of them are new to the fair.
