CHP says DUI collisions are decreasing

Approximately 15 percent of California drivers involved in the more than 65,000 traffic collisions across the state for 2008 were driving drunk, according to a statement released Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol.

The number of drunk-driving collision has declined in recent years a fact CHP officers attribute to a federally funded DUI-enforcement programs, according to the statement. In the Santa Clarita Valley, meanwhile, drunk-driving collisions have killed three people and resulted in 150 injury collisions in the last three years, according to a statement from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
