The city of Santa Clarita will see the start and expected completion of a major median refurbishment project covering over four miles of Soledad Canyon Road this year.

Set to begin in the spring and end around the fall season, this project will include landscape and irrigation improvements to the center medians, beginning at Shadow Pines on the east, and proceeding west to Luther Drive.

Covering approximately 4.5 miles of center medians, this project will include the removal of the current excess stamped concrete and add more greenery in the medians; removal of the old, damaged irrigation system, and replacing it with a new, more efficient system; removal and replacement of shrubs and low-line planting, and replacement of damaged or infected trees with fresh new plant life.

"Continuing the city's ongoing efforts toward resource conservation and street beautification, this median construction project further enhances community aesthetics of one of Santa Clarita's major corridors," Mayor Marsha McLean said.

Work will be done in phases to limit disruption of traffic patterns and congestion on the roadway. To minimize construction-related concerns, all work east of Sand Canyon Road will be done during the day, and all work west of Sand Canyon will be done mainly at night. Lane closures will occur only during the designated work hours.
