Placerita J.H. hosts robotics competition
Placerita Junior High hosts its 6th annual FIRST Lego League Robotics competition on Nov. 15 at Six Flags Magic Mountain. “FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an organization which designs accessible, innovative programs to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The program builds confidence, knowledge, and life skills” said the publicity coordinator for the event, Bonnie Shepard. “Placerita is one of the first middle schools in the valley to host a robotics program.”

This year, Placerita Junior High has 24 students competing led by teacher and coach Paul Kass and several student mentors from Hart and Valencia high schools.

Garamendi plans visit to SCV

The Democratic Club of the Santa Clarita Valley hosts “A Day in the Park” with Lt. Gov. John Garamendi and Hannah-Beth Jackson on Oct. 5. Lt. Gov. Alpaca ranches open their gates
Agua Dulce alpaca ranches will open their doors to the public from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Alpacas are luxuriously soft fleece-producing members of the camel family.

Host ranches will offer “hands on” personalized introductions to the alpaca industry, showing off their pet-quality alpacas to their high-end champions. Alpaca fiber, yarn, and clothing will be on sale.

Fat Tire Festival set for Oct. 12
The Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association (CORBA) presents the Annual Fat Tire Fest and Fundraiser at Castaic Lake on Oct 12.

The fest will feature trails to ride for all skill levels, activities for all ages, delicious tacos, and a raffle for great prizes including a weekend at Big Bear.

This is the CORBA’s 21st year of supporting mountain biking recreation, access, and volunteer programs that serve Los Angeles and the surrounding area.

Packages offered for Tour de France
