Used Cooking Oil Stolen in Canyon Country
A woman reported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station that 650 pounds of cooking oil was stolen from a dumpster at a parking lot just outside a business on Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.
The used oils is valued at approximately $400. According to the police report, the used oil was stolen between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Tuesday. No suspects have been found, and the motive is unknown.

Man Uses Fake Receipt to Attempt Television Theft
An electronics store on Kelly Johnson Parkway in Valencia was the target of an attempted burglary and assault on Monday afternoon. A man was accused of walking past the check-out register with a flat screen television and not paying for it.

When the suspect was confronted by an employee, he showed a fake receipt. The employee then escorted the suspect to the security office when the suspect assaulted her.

Moments later, the store's loss prevention manager intervened, and after a brief physical struggle, the suspect was cuffed and arrested shortly thereafter by deputies.

The television was valued at approximately $800.

Car Burglary Botched
On Feb. 16, a resident at an apartment complex on Silver Saddle Creek in Canyon Country noticed an unknown man in his 1991 Chevrolet Camaro. When the resident approached the suspect to ask what he was doing, the suspect said he got into the wrong car. The suspect immediately got out of the car and fled the scene.

Moments later, the suspect's brother approached the car owner. According to the police report, the brother stated to the victim: "Please don't tell me the car my brother broke into was yours."
The suspect's brother gave the victim the name and address of the suspect, which the victim then reported to law enforcement.

With the suspect's address, deputies arrived at the suspect's apartment and made an arrest. Deputies observed alcohol on his breath. He first said he was drunk and fell asleep in the car, but later admitted to attempting to steal the car and take it to a party in Long Beach.

According to the report, the suspect's father has a similar Chevrolet Camaro, yet it is black. The victim's Camaro is red. There was also evidence of break-in near the driver-side window. According to the victim, the doors were locked prior to the attempted theft.
