Where is my $250K?

Recently, the city’s redevelopment agency paid two business owners approximately $250,000 each to “mitigate” moving expenses on property the city wants to develop.

While I understand the purpose of redevelopment agencies, I’m at a loss as to why more than a half-million dollars was paid to two businesses that had expired leases. In the real world, when your lease expires, you renew another one or move.
End of story.

However, in the alternative universe known as our government, a half-million dollars is paid to two businesses that should have just been told to get out. This is yet another case of government officials spending other people’s money for no apparent reason.

A half-million in Santa Clarita, a few million in Los Angeles county, a few billion in California and 14 trillion for the United States. Hey, it’s not their money, so who cares?

Can I get $250,000 to move my business?
