St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church’s annual Lenten Fish Fry fundraising event ends with its sixth fry today from from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Dinner is served and available for dine-in or take-out.

The price is $7.50 for a two-piece dinner, $8.50 for a three-piece dinner.

All proceeds benefit local charities and families in need.

According to Paul Travers, who's managed the fish fry for more than 30 years, 6,400 dinners were sold on the first five Friday nights.

Travers figures the final night's tally to be around 1,250 dinners, which would put the total a few hundred more than last year's fundraiser.

But higher expenses this year will mean less profit, and less cash for the charities, to be named soon.

"We'll really take it in the shorts on the profit, becauset we stayed with the prices we promised before our price of cooking oil skyrocketed from $18 to $27 per container, and we use 20 containers per night," Travers said.
