It’s time America declared its energy independence

How many more hints from North Africa and the Middle East will it take before we as a people take control of our national dialogue?  We have an economic tragedy staring us squarely in the face, yet we will not even acknowledge its existence. The talking heads on television and Hollywood elite, who can easily afford $7 a gallon gas, want us to argue homosexual marriage or Fox News vs. MSNBC. We are being held hostage by Third World tribal insanity.

It is time for an energy Marshall Plan for Americans. We need to have that united mind set because if we do not, we will have no one to blame but ourselves. We no longer have the time, or resources to be in Afghanistan or Iraq. Any gains, no matter how sincere, will be meaningless if our economy is destroyed due to Middle East energy dependency.

It is time to drill and refine here. It is time to build nuclear plants, develop thermal technology and clean-burning coal. At the same time, get politics out of the way and unleash the power of American free enterprise to take full control of developing a new renewable, clean and workable energy.

This needs to happen today. Once the rest of the world sees we are taking back control of our own destiny, things will change immediately internationally. When the first drill bit punctures the soil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Santa Monica Bay or in my own backyard, the per barrel cost of fuel will drop in half, but we cannot stop. The controls are there to help prevent mishaps. No more drilling a mile off shore, for now it all must be done with only one purpose, get it out safe, fast and for no longer than necessary.
