Representatives from Lewis Operating Corp. will host an open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Santa Clarita City Hall’s Century Room to field community members’ questions and concerns regarding future development plans for the Whittaker-Bermite property.

The Upland-based developers and the city of Santa Clarita are in business negotiations to partner on a development project for the centrally located, 996-acre site that’s undergoing a long-term environmental cleanup of its polluted soil and groundwater.

City officials planned the open house as a forum to introduce the public to the prospective business partner.

“It’s mainly just to let people know who we are,” said Randall Lewis, executive vice president for Lewis Operating Corp.
Until recently, another developer, Shapell Industries Inc., was also slated to attend the open house as part of a preliminary business plan with Lewis and the city.

Lewis representatives said they’re prepared to move forward with development negotiations for the Whittaker-Bermite property despite Shapell’s decision to bow out of the proposed partnership, announced on Feb. 11.

Community members are invited to RSVP to the open house event by calling (661) 255-4939 or at

City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Blvd.
