Jousting the day away

Jousting will be among the events offered Saturday at the American Jousting Alliance's Frazier Mountain Jousting Tournament held at Tait Ranch in Fraizer Park.

The American Jousting Alliance will host the Frazier Mountain Jousting Tournament and Fair, 11 a.m. to sundown on Saturday at Tait Ranch, 3 miles west of I-5 and Frazier Mountain Park Road in Frazier Park. The event includes a competive sport jousting and medieval equestrian skill-at-arms tournament said James Zoppe, event organizer.

In addition to jousting Zoppe said other activities and entertainment will include, archery and spear throwing contests, dirt skiing, sword play demonstrations, storytellers, musicians, golf cart racing, the fastest feet on the mountain series, falconry, and more.

The day also features craft booths, local eco tourism information, nature and conservation talks, a farmer's market and a variety of food and beverages.

"Come on up to the clean mountain air and forget all about your worries and cares, even if it's only for the day," said Zoppe. "This is fun, family-friendly event."

Zoppe has been training people and their horses in the medieval arts for more than 18 years and has spent more than 20 years jousting. He has worked with actors from Universal Studios and Circus of the Stars and trained the Percherons used in the film, "The Fisher King," among others. Zoppe as appeared in hundreds of live performances.
