Gerry Morey

Gerry Morey, a prominent educator in the Santa Clarita Valley, recently celebrated her 80th birthday at a gala event held at the Valencia home of Sally Coss.

The party was hosted by Paula McElhinney and Renae James. Presenting tributes to Morey were Dottie Smith on behalf of Xi Nu Zeta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Charlotte Bonner of Morey’s Bible study group through Stonecroft Ministries; Dr. J. Michael McGrath who spoke about Morey’s career as an educator and daughters Paula McElhinney, Debra Moe and Renae James and her granddaughter Mackenzie, 4.

In addition, a choir from The Master’s College, directed by Dr. Paul Plew, performed a variety of songs.

The party was catered by Mary Lynn Fry. The birthday cake was baked by Nancy Olmos of Clarice’s Candy and Cakes of Newhall.

Olmos also provided party favors for each guest — cookies that were topped with Morey’s baby picture.

Guests brought cards that recounted a special memory of Morey. The cards will be assembled with photos and mementoes into a scrapbook.
