Except for 13 service errors Wednesday, the West Ranch girls volleyball team beat up on Knight in three sets.

The Wildcats landed 17 service aces in the 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 victory at Stevenson Ranch.

"We made a lot of service errors in the first game," West Ranch head coach Nate Sparks said. "Minus the missed serves, we should be fine this season."

West Ranch (2-0) made five errors in the first set, six in the second and two in the third. But Sophie Burns served six aces to lead the serving attack.

"Our defense is really good," Sparks said. "We just have to go out and cut back on our errors. It was extra smooth in the first set. It was pretty simple. We beat Knight in three sets last season."

Allison Summers led the Wildcat offense with nine kills. Megan Futch and Burns had six kills, Burns finished with five.
Lauren Shepard passed out 14 assists. Summers had seven digs. Bree Braucher had three blocks.

"We played really well," Burns said. "Everyone was really aggressive."

Last season, West Ranch was eliminated in the first round of the CIF-SS playoffs.

"I'm hoping to get to the CIF playoffs," Burns said. "We're hoping to get past the first round."

At 4 p.m. on Friday, West Ranch heads to the Dave Mohs Tournament at Corona del Mar High School in Corona del Mar. At 6:30 p.m. the Wildcats take on Santa Barbara High.

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, West Ranch plays Mission Viejo.
