Parents’ responsibility to feed their own kids

This is in response to recent letters from Michael Kulka and others.

I believe when the school lunch program was first started in this nation, it was intended to help our students by making sure they have a healthy meal. I do believe this program worked well in the beginning.

Unfortunately, in recent years, programs such as this one have not been serving the students who really need it.

If you qualify for the Women, Infants and Children program, why do you get free food at school?

A loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, apples and milk all qualify for the WIC program.

Since when did free lunch turn into free breakfast? There are so many holes in this program that it’s easy to lie, cheat and steal from the system, and sign up your child for a freebie — whether you need it or not.

That’s where the scam comes in; There are people in our society who are taking the freebies and not paying into the system.

Therefore, we are out of money.

One more thing: What happened to the idea of parents taking care of their kids? It’s their responsibility, not the school’s.
