Construction crews working near Castaic road and Lake Hughes Road cracked a gas line and more than 100 customers couldn't light their stoves, said a gas company spokersperson.

Southern California Gas Company field crews were on scene Wednesday to restore gas service, said spokeswoman April Bolduc. Gas service was expected to be restored by Wednesday night, she said.

Bolduc didn't know how or why the gas line was severed. Los Angeles County firefighter and California Highway Patrol were already on scene monitoring the work when the accident happened, she said.

The leak was quickly plugged and never was a threat to locals, Bolduc said.
