Deputies arrested a homeless Newhall man trying to steal two trash bags full of baseball equipment from Hart High School baseball park Tuesday.

A school employee found the same man, Benjamin Wunderle, snooping around Valencia High School’s dumpsters on Saturday.

Wunderle, 36, told authorities that Valencia High School principal Paul Priesz gave him permission to snoop through the trash and take what he found. There is no statement from the principal confirming Wunderle’s claim. Custodians asked the man numerous times to stop digging through the trash, a sheriff’s report said.

The vice president of facilities at Hart baseball park spoke to the man before, said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Authorities released Wunderle after the misdemeanor on Saturday.

An onlooker spotted Wunderle by an unlocked industrial bin Tuesday stuffing 11 catcher’s mitts and 12 softballs into two large trash bags.

When authorities arrived, Wunderle tried to run, the sheriff’s station said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Wunderle on suspicion of attempted theft from Hart baseball park.
