The lighting, music and mood while receiving a massage, especially when booked as a couple’s outing, can lead to romance later on, according to Newhall’s Spa Villa owner Mary Velek.

Sure, chocolates and flowers are nice, but if you really want to make your Valentine feel special, how about a massage or treatment at a local day spa?

With everyone’s busy, stressful lifestyles, a massage is often the perfect way to say I love you, according to Karen Maleck Whiteley, owner of Balance Point Spa in Canyon Country.

“Gifts are nice, but I think it’s really nice to give someone an experience,” she said. “It says you’re important, it’s a way to take care of someone you love in a way they may not normally treat themselves to.”

Of course, on Valentine’s Day, you can also up the romantic ante by booking a couples day at the spa. “Most of us have plenty of things, but I think it’s more meaningful to do something with someone you love,” Maleck Whiteley said. “We sell a lot of couple’s treatments, such as a side by side massage with a foot treatment and sauna, so people can come in together.”

Whatever your budget, there’s a day spa experience available in the Santa Clarita Valley perfect for you and/or your valentine, whether it’s frolicking in the therapeutic mud grotto at Valencia’s Glen Ivy Day Spa or experiencing champagne and chocolate enhanced massages at Newhall’s Spa Villa or Valencia’s La Beau Organic Day Spa.

If your Valentine is particular to an all-natural experience, the latter can be especially pleasing. “Our spa is great for people who are concerned about the harm of toxins and chemicals. All of our products are USDA certified organic,” said Sophia Kupis, manager of La Beau.

Many studies suggest massage can be helpful for stress relief as well as managing anxiety and depression, pain and stiffness control and lowering blood pressure and boosting immunity.

A couples massage, in particular, can have even more benefits. “With the low lights, candles, soft music, strawberries and chocolate, our couples massage can definitely lead to romance later on,” said Mary Velek, owner of Spa Villa.
