Canyon sophomore running back Trent Hernandez broke his right clavicle on the last of his 11 carries Friday night and will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Hernandez had a breakout performance, rushing for 98 yards in a 54-6 win over Granada Hills.

Two quarterbacks, one job:

After Spenser Souza was named the starting quarterback for Hart's game against
Palmdale, the Indians other signalcaller Darren Sholes quit the team.

Sholes didn't come to practice last Monday and told Hart coach Mike Herrington he was quitting on Tuesday.

Herrington gave Sholes today as the deadline to come back to the team.

"He wasn't happy that he wasn't named the starter and said he didn't want to play," Herrington said.
Souza threw for 71 yards with two interceptions in the 29-6 loss to Palmdale.

Herrington said that Sholes decision was an emotional one, and he didn't know whether Sholes would decide to return.

"Very disappointed that he left but he's a pretty good athlete; we were going to try to play him on defense but he chose not to do that," Herrington said.

Hart's backup quarterback is now C.J. Reyes who was the starter on junior varsity last season.
