Welcome Ian Lamont

We're edging up on the middle of September - already! Wasn't it just yesterday that SCV children were heading back to school? Yet, here it is, its been nearly a month!

Welcome Ian Lamont
The Mighty Signal is so pleased to welcome our new publisher - Ian Lamont and his wife, Oksanna. In one of those wonderful small world stories Ian and I have lived (at different times) in the same small corner of the world (and I do mean small...) I grew up in Othello, Wash. Years after I left home Ian was general manger and publisher of the Tri-City Herald, only 45 minutes from my hometown. Othello was served by a weekly newspaper (which is where I got my feet wet in journalism) but The Tri-City Herald was our daily newspaper - and one I still read on my trips home. I have many friends who live in the Tri-City (Richland, Kenniwick and Pasco) area.

Kudos to Cameron Smyth from Youth Project
Ian Lamont has already been out on the town "meeting and greeting" and congratulating state Assemblyman Cameron Smyth for work with the SCV Youth Project. Poole and Shaffery, LLP in Valencia hosted a nice soiree to name Cameron "chairman emeritus" of the youth organization which works to help teens in crisis. Also seen were Paul Musella, Paul de la Cerda, Marlee Lauffer, Cheri Fleming, Bob Kellar, Laurie Ender, Lois Bauccio, Kris and Tom Hough, Stella Pilarski, David Poole, John Shaffery, Brian Koegle, Brian Tinkham, Jim Ventress, Patty Kelly, Jackie Bick, Kim Goldman, Renee Kaehny, Bob Haueter and Elizabeth Hopp.

TPC/West Ranch Art and Wine Gala
The inaugural TPC/West Ranch Art and Wine Gala will be held Saturday at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia to support the arts in the SCV. A five-course gourmet dinner will be presented with an art and wine auction to follow. Limited seating, tickets are $150 per person. For information contact Lesley Jacobs at Valencia Wine Co., (661) 254-9300.

Dancing the night away...
The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer "Evening Under the Stars" was another boffo night of food, fun, fundraising and music. Held at Mann BioMedical Park in Valencia I feared the outdoor event would be a "sweatfest" because of the day's extreme heat - however, it turned out to be a very pleasant evening. I did "glow" a little as I danced to the music of Al McKay, an original member of Earth, Wind and Fire and I appreciated the invitation from Scott and Vanessa Wilk to join them on the dance floor. The floor was packed so it was impossible to tell who was dancing with whom anyway - I also had a blast dancing with Signal colleagues Jim Walker and Maureen Daniels.

Seen at Evening Under the Stars
Kudos to everyone who purchased the live and silent auction items to benefit this worthy charity. Seen at the event were: Jill and Jim Mellady, Gloria Mercado and Bruce Fortine, Chris and Sue Hoefflin, Jim and Stephanie Weiss, Scott Schauer, Tim Ketchepaw, Rick Garcia, Tony Potts, Scott and Vanessa Wilk, Mike and Cindy Jaffe, Tammy and Mandy David, Mike DeLorenzo, Ken Striplin, Chris and Jane Fall, Marlee Lauffer, Dora Zavala, Jim and Julia Hicken, Kim Altobello, Frank and Pam DiTomaso, Jim and Susan Lentini, Lois Bauccio, Rachel Singer, Laurie and Chris Ender, Cathy and Bill Kennedy and Elizabeth Hopp.
