An impromptu stop at an outlet center in Lake Elsinore led to the theft of an invaluable shotgun owned by four-time Olympian Kim Rhode.
Sometime at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Rhode's gun hidden under a blanket and several other items was stolen from her parents' small Nissan truck, which had its window shattered.
"The gun was priceless (to me)," Rhode said on Saturday. "How do you put a price on something that won four Olympic medals?"
A surveillance tape caught two suspects driving off in a red Ford Explorer with no license plate.
Rhode was shopping for items for her wedding with her mother, Sharon.
The Olympian who trains at Oak Tree Country Club in Newhall had just appeared in a public service announcement for The Outdoor Channel for Get Out The Vote.
"It was totally hidden," Rhode said.
