Local motorists can soon expect a smoother ride on Lyons Avenue as they make their way onto Interstate 5 northbound.

Santa Clarita will oversee a maintenance construction project at the intersection on Wednesday and Thursday to smooth out a bumpy, rutted stretch of roadway.

Drivers should expect delays at the Lyons and I-5 intersection from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, when construction workers plan to replace traffic signal detector loops.

The intersection’s northbound I-5 onramp is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday and from 9 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday as construction crews re-stripe the intersection’s traffic lanes and crosswalks.

Meanwhile, the northbound offramp will be closed for the duration of the project.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes during these times.

Bill Whitlatch, city’s administrative analyst and project’s manager, said the city has received several complaints in recent months over a series of ruts in the road that measure about 2 inches deep.
