Get the facts on issues before speaking out

What is hate speech and who should be silenced from their right to speak out? Should People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Code Pink, environmentalists, Right for Life or anti-war activists lose their right to express their views? No. These groups have a right to be heard.

There are, and always will be, unstable people out there who will internalize these issues and turn to violence.

People who will abuse our freedoms are everywhere, but we will and should not ever relinquish these freedoms based on those who abuse them.

I can’t help but think back on all the special people we have lost to the acts committed by unstable people.

What we must understand is that we must not silence the views of others. We must listen to others in an effort to become more aware.

With a variety of ideas, we then can draw our own conclusions.

Most important, we can incorporate not only one idea, but those of many. To follow one individual without allowing other input makes us sheep.

Inform yourself, but use all sources before you align yourself with any particular philosophy. We cannot rely on blogs, as they are notoriously inaccurate.

 We must look deeper.

Just remember — everyone has their own particular agenda, so we must look deeper to hopefully find truth.

As for the tragedy in Arizona, I see it as incomprehensible as the person who kills their family and themselves, or gang killings of innocent children.

I don’t blame anyone except the person who committed these unconscionable deeds.
