Family-friendly fun at the REP

If you've never seen five impromptu actors spontaneously intoning a song about "Interplanetary Road Rage," or boldly making up Shakespearean verse on the spot, or re-playing a scene they've just made up, but now in reverse, you're missing out on one of the theater's most thrilling experiences - improvisation.

The Society comedy troupe delivers just such an experience during monthly appearances at the Repertory East Playhouse in Newhall. The Society's shows and cast are easily comparable with Drew Carey's "Whose Line is it Anyway." The shows are fast paced, clean, family-friendly, exciting and genuinely funny, said Ovington Michael Owston, artistic director of the Repertory East Playhouse.

The players are professional film and television actors and comedians. They perform monthly at the Repertory East Playhouse in Santa Clarita in addition to their touring schedule. The group will perform their "Improv Spectacular" 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Repertory East Playhouse.

"We love having them at our theater," said Owston. "It's a great fit and the audiences love them. Because it's improvised, every show is different, and the Society's shows are suitable for all ages."

Santa Clarita Valley audiences have given the show high marks. "It's a fast paced show. They really kept me laughing," said Deen Ferrel, who attended a recent performance.

For reservations call the Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 Main St., Newhall at (661) 288-0000, or visit www.repeastplayhouse.org.
