Residents of Sunset Heights in Santa Clarita recently held their annual neighborhood block party, but this year they added a special event.
Judy Butts, owner of SeaMaster Cruises, is a part of an organization called The Pajama Program.
As featured on Oprah, this program collects pajamas and books to give to children who are awaiting adoption.
"The thought of those children receiving new warm pajamas, and books opened my heart and eyes to the concept of coordinating this event," said Butts.
The Sunset Heights Social Committee sponsored the block party and neighbors were encouraged to bring a new pair of children's pajamas to the event.
"We collected 13 pairs the night of the event, plus I had 12 pairs going in to that night. I'm expecting a few more to trickle in before the end of the week."
Butts is also encouraging neighborhoods to organize a party and start their own fundraiser. For more information visit www.pajamaprogram.org. "I saw this as an opportunity to have some fun, but also contribute to our community at the same time," said Butts.
